The Biggest eBay Selling Mistake
The biggest eBay selling mistake is debatable, for sure. The mistakes I made selling on eBay are many. If you’re starting, it’s bound to happen. Guess what? It happens to the most seasoned sellers as well! I still make mistakes as a seller to this day! Making mistakes while reselling on eBay can certainly take a hit to your confidence, but it doesn’t have to end your journey of being a reseller.
The Biggest eBay Selling Mistake
The most mistakes I made selling on eBay have to do with shipping. I have a terrible habit of underestimating how much a package weighs to ship, and I end up undercharging, which cuts into my profit because I have to make up any shipping that the buyer didn’t pay. This can easily be solved by purchasing an inexpensive shipping scale. You can weigh your package and determine what type of shipping service to use (Priority Mail, Ground Advantage, etc.).
Now What?
Suppose you’ve sold an item and realize you didn’t charge enough for shipping. What do you do now? I’ve had that realization happen to me before, and I felt it would be in poor taste to contact the buyer and ask them to pay more for shipping. I’ve always just made up the difference with my own eBay funds. Sometimes, it really hurts. I did this once, and I barely made any profit on the item once it was all said and done. That taught me to always check shipping on bigger boxes than I normally ship out.
How To Fix This Selling Mistake
By offering a shipping calculator, eBay makes it easy to get your shipping costs. You enter the weight and dimensions of your package, and it tells you how much shipping will cost. You definitely want to take advantage of this tool because it’s very easy to underestimate the weight of a package, and you would be surprised how expensive it can be to ship specific items.
Don’t let one mistake discourage you from selling on eBay. You learn by doing, and experience is the best teacher for being a reseller.
