Name Your Listing

The biggest mistake on eBay listings is titles that give too little information.  Think about it.  Your buyer is glancing through listings to find specific things.  If they run across a listing that says “Blue Shirt Extra Large,” chances are they won’t even click on it if they even find it at all.  Think about how many blue shirts are listed on eBay.  I just did this search, and it’s 1,500,000.  Your listing for that shirt could be buried under millions of other listings!

Now, if I listed that same shirt as “Blue Dress Shirt Extra Large Polo Ralph Lauren Long Sleeve, I get 712 results. You could even add “stripes,” “solid,” or “new.”  That’s more like it!  Your listing will most likely at least get a look because it narrows down the item specifics.  Be as descriptive as you can in your title.  This also helps Google find it for people who may be searching for that shirt off of the eBay platform.

Take Great Pictures

As an eBay buyer, nothing turns me off more than seeing terrible pictures or hardly any pictures!  So many people think they need expensive studio lighting or light boxes to make their item pictures stand out.  If that’s how you choose to do it, that’s great!  However, if you start reselling on a budget, you don’t need to go into debt or break the bank to get good pictures.

You can find a good spot in your home with great lighting and use an app like Photoroom to remove the background on your pictures.  Take lots of photos, showing the item from all angles and zoning in on imperfections you might need to point out.  Think about what YOU would want to see as a buyer.

Get Specific

The more details you give about your item, the better!  Take the shirt we talked about above.  It’s great to list a size, but sizes vary from brand to brand, and your buyer may not be familiar with your brand.  How can you help them decide if the shirt will work for them?  Think measurements!  Measurements are crucial to so many items.  Measure the width of the shirt from underarm to underarm.  Measure the length.  Some people prefer a longer shirt to cover their bottom area.

Describe your item in detail.  eBay now has AI that can generate a description for you based on the item specifics you choose.  Just be sure to review what it writes before you post it to ensure it’s correct.  Again, be sure to point out any flaws or damage to your item, if there is one.

These are the three most significant areas to focus on once you start listing items for sale.  Remember, potential customers are just glancing through things they are looking for.  The easiest way to stand out among millions of other items is to ensure you give as much information as possible in the title and descriptions and provide great photos.
